Instead of seeing his fortune vanish into traditional charities, watch it grow inside it’s tax sheltered LLC that is not a non-profit. This is what is called venture philanthropy—the same trick other billionaires are doing with their money. They claim they are giving their money away to improve the world while they are really sheltering their money from paying their fair share of taxes and using the LCC to make more money than they might actually be giving away to improve the quality of life in the world. For instance, Bill Gates does it. The Koch brothers do it. The Walton family does it, and they are using these tricky tax shelters to buy the American republic and turn it into an oligarchy ruled by the few who have the most.
ProPublica and the New York Times report, “An LLC can invest in for-profit companies (perhaps these will be characterized as societally responsible companies, but lots of companies claim the mantle of societal responsibility). An LLC can make political donations. It can lobby for changes in the law. He remains completely free to do as he wishes with his money. That’s what America is all about. But as a society, we don’t generally call these types of activities ‘charity.'” But Bill Gates does and now so does Zuckerberg and the corporate owned media trumpets their boasted lies to the world.
